Sci-Fi/Fantasy/Speculative Fiction

The term “speculative fiction” refers a broad range of genres including science fiction, fantasy, horror, futuristic and supernatural narratives as well as stories that might fall under more than one of these classifications. Speculative fiction includes works of all lengths from flash fiction to novels

Bring your incomplete manuscript, your first paragraph, or your completely undeveloped idea. We’ll spend some time in class discussing our inspirations, free writing, working from new prompts and developing your work in progress (WIP) if you have one. Love writing this type of story, but haven’t the faintest idea what you’d like to write about? That’s fine! You can still join us.

In this workshop, you choose how you’d like to divide your focus between writing and receiving critique. During our first several meetings, we’ll spend most of our time writing, and bouncing ideas off one another. As we get further into the eight weeks, everyone will have the option to submit what they’re working on for critique by your classmates on Scribophile.com. While each participant will be asked to submit something at least once, no one will be obligated to put their work up for critique more than that unless they choose to do so.
